Just the Goods Quick News - December 2021
Hello!
I hope this mini newsletter finds you well 😊
I’m sending this brief message tonight for two reasons. First, to offer a gentle reminder about Just the Goods’ production and shipping schedule for the weeks ahead, and to ask a question about shipping preferences. Please find details below…
Holiday Production and Shipping Schedule
A gentle reminder that December 10 (this Friday) is the last day to order for guaranteed handmaking and shipping before Just the Goods closes for two weeks -- Saturday, December 18 until Sunday, January 2 ❄️
Orders placed after December 10 should anticipate them being handmade as quickly as possible beginning January 3 for shipping January 5, 7, or 12 😊
Subscriptions set to charge after December 10 will be handmade before December 17 to guarantee they can ship out on January 5
And, one last thought… Please note all carriers suspended their guaranteed shipping dates early on in the panini and haven't restored those guarantees due to the overwhelming quantity of parcels circulating the globe these days. Please know there is no guarantee parcels can arrive by a certain date, although I’m certain all carriers are doing their very best. Just the Goods typically doesn't offer delivery date guarantees, but carriers still can't, either 💕 Thank you!
A Question for Those in the United States: USPS or UPS?
Great news! My primary supplier of e-postage for orders to the US -- EasyShip -- has recently started to offer UPS US Domestic service. I’ve been working with their technicians to pull their rates into my website, but since my site primarily functions in Canadian Dollars, and because I still need to be able to offer UPS for clients in Canada and destinations worldwide, it hasn’t quite worked out.
However, in the meantime, I’m finding UPS occasionally appears as a faster option at the same rate when we’re generating e-postage in EasyShip for addresses in the United States. The algorithm UPS uses to calculate cubic weight versus distance travelled is very complicated, so I can’t manually replicate weight-based categories the way I do on my website for USPS, but I’m wondering…
If -- while generating e-postage for your order -- we encounter a comparably priced UPS Domestic option, are you interested in us making that switch on your behalf, even though USPS was indicated at checkout when you placed your order?
Just the Goods’ access to UPS domestic operates the same way as it does for our access to USPS domestic: we generate e-postage from an address in Pembina ND, then our third-party broker clears your parcels as part of large batches travelling across the Canada/US border each Wednesday and Friday morning. The only difference will be that, instead of the broker depositing your parcel with the USPS office, they’ll deposit your parcel with the UPS office, instead.
This is a pretty exciting development, and I’d be eager to try swapping UPS for USPS were possible on a trial basis. Please let me know your thoughts in general, and I’ll use that to gauge if this is a good idea, or not. Thank you!!
